Florida Keys Marine Construction

Seawall Construction
for the Florida Keys.

Coral substrate, constant saltwater exposure, and hurricane-level storm surge demand seawalls built to a higher standard. Aqua Pilings designs and constructs vinyl, concrete, and rip-rap seawalls custom engineered for your specific shoreline — from quiet canals in Key Largo to exposed bay-front properties in Marathon.

Why It Matters

Every Keys shoreline
is different.

A canal-front property in Key Largo faces different tidal patterns, soil conditions, and exposure levels than a bay-front estate in Marathon or an oceanside property in Key West. There is no single seawall solution that works everywhere — which is why every project we take on starts with a thorough on-site assessment.

Building seawalls in the Keys is more technically demanding than mainland construction. The coral rock substrate requires specific installation methods. Saltwater corrosion eliminates materials that would otherwise perform well in freshwater or low-salinity environments. And the permitting process through Monroe County, FDEP, and in some cases the Army Corps of Engineers requires knowledge and experience to navigate efficiently.

We handle all of it — design, permits, and construction — with the same crew from start to finish. No subcontractors, no handoffs, and no surprises on the bill.

Engineered for Hurricane Conditions Seawalls sized and constructed to withstand storm surge and hurricane-force conditions specific to your site.
Materials Rated for Saltwater Vinyl sheet piles, concrete, and rip-rap selected for long-term performance in the aggressive marine environment of the Keys.
Custom to Your Property We assess your soil type, tidal exposure, and shoreline conditions before recommending a seawall system — not a one-size solution.
Full Permitting In-House Monroe County, FDEP, and Army Corps applications handled by our team from drawings through final approval.

What We Build

The right system
for your shoreline.

We work with three primary seawall systems, each suited to different site conditions, budgets, and long-term goals. After assessing your property we will recommend the right fit and explain the tradeoffs clearly.

Vinyl Sheet Pile

The most common choice for residential canal and bay-front properties in the Keys. Vinyl sheet pile is immune to saltwater corrosion, requires minimal maintenance, and installs efficiently. Well-suited for moderate tidal exposure and standard residential applications.

Concrete Seawalls

Precast and poured-in-place concrete seawalls provide maximum structural strength for high-exposure locations and heavier loading requirements. The preferred solution for commercial properties, marinas, and sites facing significant wave and surge activity.

Rip-Rap Seawalls

Rip-rap — placed rock or rubble — is a cost-effective shoreline protection method that allows natural water movement while dissipating wave energy. Often used in combination with other systems or where a natural aesthetic is preferred.

Warning Signs

When to replace
your seawall.

Proactive replacement is almost always less expensive than emergency repair after storm damage or a failure. If your seawall is showing any of the following signs, an assessment is worth scheduling before the next hurricane season.

Visible cracks, leaning, or sections pulling away from the soil
Soil erosion or sinkholes appearing behind the wall
Rust staining, corrosion, or deteriorating materials
Wall is 20+ years old and has not been professionally assessed
Storm damage from a recent hurricane or tropical storm
Common Questions

Seawall questions
answered.

Here are the questions we hear most often from Keys property owners about seawall construction, replacement, and maintenance.

Call Us Directly
Any waterfront property owner who is experiencing erosion, has an aging or damaged seawall, or wants to proactively protect their shoreline from storm surge and wave action. Canal-front homes, bay-front estates, and properties with direct ocean exposure throughout the Keys are all candidates.
Before hurricane season is ideal — permitting and construction take time, and waiting until after storm damage means you are already dealing with emergency repairs, which are typically more expensive. If your seawall is showing visible deterioration, the right time is as soon as you can schedule an assessment. Proactive replacement is almost always less costly than emergency work.
The Keys present a combination of challenges that mainland construction does not: coral rock substrate that requires specialized installation methods, continuous saltwater exposure that eliminates many standard materials, hurricane wind and surge calculations that exceed typical coastal requirements, and a permitting process that involves Monroe County, FDEP, and sometimes the Army Corps of Engineers. Contractors without Keys-specific experience frequently underestimate these factors.
Yes. We manage the entire permitting process in-house — drawings, applications, agency coordination, and follow-through to final approval. Seawall permits in the Keys can involve multiple agencies and environmental review requirements. We handle all of it; you sign where required and we manage the rest.
We serve waterfront properties throughout the Florida Keys and South Florida — Key West, Stock Island, Big Pine Key, Marathon, Duck Key, Islamorada, Tavernier, Key Largo, Plantation Key, Key Biscayne, and the broader South Florida coastline.
