Florida Keys Marine Construction

Bulkheads & Retaining Walls
for the Florida Keys.

Shoreline erosion does not stop between storms. Bulkheads and retaining walls engineered for the Keys environment — accounting for tidal variation, soil conditions, saltwater exposure, and hurricane loads — are the most effective long-term defense for your waterfront property.

Site-Specific Engineering

No two shorelines
are the same.

The tidal patterns in Key Largo differ from those in Marathon. Soil conditions vary significantly between canal-front properties and bay-front sites. What works as a bulkhead solution for one property may be inadequate — or unnecessary — for another. Mainland contractors who apply the same design to every job in the Keys are not accounting for these differences.

We start every bulkhead project with a thorough site assessment. We look at your current shoreline condition, the type of soil behind the wall, your tidal exposure, any existing structure that may be affected, and the applicable regulatory requirements for your location. That assessment drives the design — not the other way around.

Every project includes full permitting support through Monroe County, FDEP, and any other applicable agencies. The same crew that assesses your site handles design, construction, and final inspection — no subcontractors, no handoffs.

Engineered for Keys Conditions Wall systems designed around your specific soil type, tidal exposure, and hurricane load requirements — not a standard template.
Saltwater-Rated Materials Vinyl sheet pile, concrete, and treated timber selected for long-term performance against constant saltwater and tidal exposure.
Full Permitting In-House Monroe County, FDEP, and Army Corps applications managed from drawings through final approval — you sign, we handle the rest.
25+ Years of Local Experience We have been building bulkheads and retaining walls across the Florida Keys for over 25 years — we know the soils, tides, and permitting requirements.
One Crew Throughout No subcontractors. The same licensed team handles your project from initial assessment through final inspection.
System Options

The right wall
for your shoreline.

Bulkhead and retaining wall systems vary in cost, longevity, and appropriate application. We assess your site conditions before recommending anything — and we explain the tradeoffs clearly so you can make an informed decision.

Vinyl Sheet Pile

The most widely used system for residential waterfront properties in the Keys. Vinyl sheet pile is immune to saltwater corrosion, installs efficiently, and provides solid shoreline protection for canal-front and moderate tidal exposure sites. Low maintenance and long-lasting.

Concrete Bulkheads

Precast and poured-in-place concrete systems provide maximum structural strength for high-exposure locations, commercial properties, and sites facing significant wave action or storm surge. More involved to install but highly durable in demanding marine environments.

Treated Timber

Properly treated timber bulkheads remain a practical option for certain Keys applications. When the correct treatment specification is used alongside appropriate hardware, timber systems can provide reliable shoreline retention at a lower initial cost than concrete.

When to Act

Signs your shoreline
needs attention.

Erosion and bulkhead failure tend to worsen faster than property owners expect — particularly following storms. Proactive installation or repair before hurricane season is significantly less expensive than addressing an emergency after damage has already occurred.

Visible soil erosion or land loss along the shoreline after storms
Existing bulkhead leaning, bowing, or showing cracks
Soil washing through gaps or underneath the wall during tidal cycles
Foundation settlement or sinkholes forming behind the wall
Existing structure showing significant corrosion or material deterioration

Answers to the questions we hear most from Keys property owners about bulkhead installation, replacement, and what the process involves.

Call Us Directly
Waterfront property owners who are experiencing active erosion, have an aging or failing bulkhead, or want to proactively protect their shoreline before the next storm season. Canal-front homes, bay-front properties, and any waterfront parcel with an unstable shoreline are candidates. Properties without any shoreline protection may also benefit depending on their exposure level.
The dry season — November through April — offers better conditions for construction scheduling. However, permitting and design need to begin well in advance of when you want work to start. Installing before hurricane season is strongly advisable, as proactive replacement is almost always less costly than emergency repair after a storm causes further damage. If your existing structure is showing signs of failure, the right time to act is before the next significant weather event.
Bulkhead design in the Keys requires accounting for local soil variability, tidal range, saltwater corrosion, and hurricane load conditions that differ significantly from mainland coastal construction. The permitting process involves Monroe County, FDEP, and in some cases the Army Corps of Engineers — each with their own review requirements. Contractors without Keys-specific experience routinely miss site conditions and regulatory requirements that affect how a wall should be built and how long it will last.
The process starts with an on-site assessment of your shoreline, existing structure, and soil conditions. From there we develop a design specific to your site, handle all required permits, and manage construction through to final inspection. You are kept informed at each milestone — we do not go dark between permit submission and construction start.
We serve waterfront properties throughout the Florida Keys and South Florida — Key West, Stock Island, Big Pine Key, Marathon, Duck Key, Islamorada, Tavernier, Key Largo, Plantation Key, Key Biscayne, and the broader South Florida coastline.
